More stripping
This weekend was more stripping of paint and popcorn remnants. The ceiling has most of the popcorn off, but now working on removing the blotches of texture and also trying to wipe down the calcimine. Things are going fine, but it's a very tedious process with sponging down the ceiling and constantly changing water as it gets immediately milky from the calcimine and joint compound.
While doing that I flipped back to using the citrus strip and infrared heat to strip the molding. Mostly going fine, but reaching a point where there's now a lot of nooks and crannies that need to be addressed. Also there's a lot of goop residue from the stripper that seems really hard to remove. The instructions say to use mineral spirits to remove the residue, but I find that denatured alcohol seems to work better at cleaning up the slop from the stripper.
The hardest work is removing the caked in newspaper from the floor. I'm able to scrape some off after wetting it, but there's still a layer of paper that I can't seem to get off the floor. I tried some Goo Off, but that didn't seem to do anything. Before I go to a sander, I will try a few more chemical options to see if something can get the worn in newspaper off the floor.
For a break, I hit the boardwalk and try a donut sundae at the Fractured Prune, but it turns out to be a mess. Not enough ice cream and what ice cream there was, immediately got absorbed into the donut. I take a few bites and throw the rest in the trash.
