Starting the Second Wall Coat
This weekend is truncated due to some work and family obligations, but in my limited time I start tackling the 2nd coat of plaster on the walls. Last week I did the first coat to cover the plaster washers. This coat is to even everything out and get things level for wallpaper. I won’t need to burnish this finish or go with a super fine coat because wallpaper will cover the plaster.
I spray the wall down with water and use a drywall knife to knock down any ridges or rough areas before starting the plastering. I get the second coat on and pay special attention to the lumps from the plaster washers. For these I have to be careful not to spread the plaster too thinly or apply too much pressure over the washer. I end up using the flat of the blade more than the edge to make sure the plaster fills in the gaps from the washer’s bulge.
I only get two of the four walls done this weekend so I’ll finish the room next time. While I’m plastering I also start putting up some samples from Bradbury wallpaper to see which colors and designs will work in the bedroom.
