Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Brown Coat

Brown Coat

After a week of curing, this week is another coat of lime plaster for the brown coat. I mix up another batch of Limeworks plaster and apply that over the scratch coat. After the coat is down, I level it out using a 3’ screed. I rub this back and forth over the repair to knock down any of the high spots and then build up any areas that are dipped below the screed.

The rest of the work in the room is more scrubbing of the walls/ceilings and some more stripping of the woodwork. The walls and ceiling get another scrubbing with TSP using a Brillo pad. I start squeegeeing off the wet mess to start removing things rather than having the calcimine slop just be spread around on the walls. I then follow with a clean water rinse and more squeegee.

Everything stripped on the plaster except for the old stove pipe hole.

For woodwork, I continue stripping paint off only using the Speedheater. Once I do a full pass with that I start working in the chemical stripper. I continue stripping the paint off the hardware with another simmer in the crockpot followed by boiling in vinegar for 5 minutes. I saw the tip about using boiling vinegar on Youtube and I’m not sure if it works any better than the crockpot, but I do get all the paint off and put a coat of boiled linseed oil on things so it doesn’t rust. Next I’ll dye the metal.
