Finishing up the wallpaper
Karen is back this weekend so we can finish up the wallpaper. For the final stretch, we have a solid wall and then some work around a doorway. The wall goes well with only some stress trying to get the paper plumb. I waste the first sheet of the project by trying to get a sheet to lay plumb and I take too much time trying to stretch the paper that I rip it and have to abandon it. After that failure out of the way, the rest of the sheets go better. Still have issues with paste getting on the sheets so I haven’t figured out a way to make everything nice and neat. I tend to try a little more paste than I would think just in case but when you roll out the lumps you get some extra paste squeezing through the seam which makes it impossible to keep those completely clean.
Before we hit the doorway, I add another coat of paint to the soffit to get that fully covered for the border. We don’t plan to get to the border in this round because it’s still taking us about 45 minutes per sheet.
The grand finale is coming out of the doorway to meet up with our starting point. Because the doorway has a small segment above it, we cut the sheet to fit roughly over the molding, trim that away and then put in a small one foot piece above the door.
With the wallpaper done, there’s a little time to do some more door work. The closet door has the matte finish done but the main door still needs more coats of Waterlox since this one lagged behind from all of the staining and re-staining. I apply some coats of the semi-gloss. After the gloss cures for the week, I’ll move on to the matte coats.
