Securing Plaster in the Bedroom
No more plastering this weekend, but things continue towards repairing the cracks before skimcoating. First up is another washing of the walls, this time with soap and water, squeegee, clean water rinse, and squeegee. At this point pretty much all the old calcimine is off and I start using the plaster washers to reattach the spongy plaster. With the last bedroom it seemed like hitting a stud helped pull the plaster back so I use a stud finder to try and find some nearby studs when making a repair. The stud finder is a little hit and miss with plaster since it’s designed for sheetrock, but after a few probes with the drill and screws, I start finding the studs.
The metal hardware gets a coat of the black dye patina. A few of the pieces need multiple coats and after the dye dries I start applying clear coat to the pieces. Each coat of clear coat takes about an hour to dry and I get 3 coats done. After the final coat dries overnight I then rub the metal with black wax to seal everything.
Last up is stripping woodwork with the SpeedHeater. I get a few more of the door casings stripped in preparation for a chemical stripping.
