Touch-ups and doors
For bedroom one, it’s back to finishing up the doors to get them hung and closing. I left the closet door installed on the hinges, but not completely closing due to the top of the door hitting the jam. I start tinkering with the hinges to get the door to fit better. These hinges are replacements because the original ones were cracked, so I notice they aren’t laying completely flat against the wood. I use a chisel and file to clean up some of the wood to get the hinge to fit tighter into the hinge pocket. That gets me closer, but I’m still noticing the bottom hinge is causing the door to be tight against the frame. To fix this I insert some shims into place to get that pushed out from the frame. Once I do that, the door now closes. Now that I can see the latch lined up, I reattach that and the closet door is done.
The main door gets its final coats of Waterlox and while that dries, I do a touchup to the ceiling with some more clay paint. I hit the areas damaged from the wallpaper paste and then spread things out from there to try and blend out the new paint with the older paint. Although “old” is relative because I applied the coat only a few weeks ago, there are still color variations between the two coats. After the ceiling is done and the Waterlox on the door has dried, I start re-attaching the hardware to the main door. Once that is all all attached, I work on hang the door on the hinges. Since I’m re-using the same hinges for this door, I don’t have as many issues getting this door to close. The only thing that ends up being tricky is getting the hinge pins in. I solve that by applying some dry lube to the hinges and that allows the pins to fit in without too much pressure.
In the second bedroom, it’s more scraping. I get through most of the walls and then start making my way to the ceiling. For now just just working with a metal scraper to get what I can off the walls.
