Cottage Floors Finished

Cottage Floors Finished

The last piece of the cottage renovations before the rental season were finished this week. The floor contractor was able to fit me into his busy schedule and he did another amazing job on the floors, restoring them back to their original look. While I waited for the last coat of oil to dry, I did a final rub out of the shellacked woodwork with lavender and brown paste wax. Now that the sander doesn’t need to get up the stairs, I hung the repaired door and gave the stairs a new coat of paint since they took a beating during the renovations.

After the oil dried, it was off to the final touches of reassembling the bed and moving furniture back into the room. At some point in the past, a wood floor filler was applied. It looks fine, but also has a white color that kind of sticks out. So to blend things in, I went through the parts of the floor that were filled and colored the white filler with a black sharpie.

The dresser was white, but I painted it with the same blue chalk paint and black wax to match the dresser in the other bedroom.

Small, but cozy.

After that, some minor dusting and decorating and that brings a close to another year of renovations for the cottage. While the cottage is rented for the summer, it’s back to the house to work on the bathroom.

The bedroom I renovated last year, but this time with updated door, molding and decorations.
