Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Plastering Ceiling

Plastering Ceiling

The goal for this weekend is to get a coat of plaster on the ceiling. Before plastering I do another pass over the ceiling looking for any cracks I missed and applying mesh tape to them and then covering with Durabond 90. While Durabonding, I try to recover any plaster washer screws that were not fully covered up from the first pass. Getting the drywall screws covered up is still tricky and the more I try to smooth out the Durabond, the more things scrape away to expose the screw heads.

While the Durabond cures, I do some work to the cottage to get it ready for the rental season. All of the inside is all done, but I pick up some plants for the outside. I also start putting down stones and shells around the foundation. Right now it’s dirt and grass, but the grass never seems to grow because it remains damp and shady right next to the cottage. Seems like a better option is to go with stone since I don’t think grass will ever take hold in that environment.

Another slight detour to the main door to the bedroom with a few passes of the SpeedHeater to strip paint. After I get through all the heat removal of paint then I’ll move to the chemical stripper.

After the stalling, off to plaster the ceiling. This is the first pass so I’m not trying to make this super nice, just get the plaster on the ceiling and try to build up enough to cover the washers and the ceiling starting to smooth out. The main problem is just the awkwardness of working above my head and also working around the HVAC vents.

After I finish the plaster, I do another check over the walls and do some final clean up of the Durabond repairs. I use a wet sponge to smooth out any of the repairs in preparation of plastering the walls next visit.

Ceiling has a new skimcoat vs. the walls which do not.
